Pakistani Students Win Nuclear Olympiad Medals at INSO 2025

Pakistani students have brought pride to the nation by winning four medals at the 2nd International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO-2025), held in Malaysia. The competition took place from July 30 to August 5 and was organized under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The Pakistani team won one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. The Olympiad featured participants from 19 countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Türkiye, and Saudi Arabia.

Muhammad Tayyab Bukhari from Abbottabad won the gold medal. Ammar Asad Warraich from Islamabad earned silver. Rawah Javed (Islamabad) and Tatheer Aima Naqvi (Jhang) secured bronze medals.

The team was guided by Dr. Sajjad Tahir from the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) and Dr. Muhammad Maqsood from the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC). Their mentorship played a key role in preparing the students for this global event.

This success is seen as a result of efforts by PIEAS, PAEC, and related institutions to support young scientists. It also shows Pakistan’s growing role in promoting peaceful uses of nuclear science in areas like medicine, agriculture, and education.

The students participated under the STEM Careers Programme. This initiative is jointly run by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and PIEAS. It aims to prepare students for international science competitions.

This is not the first major win for Pakistan in international science contests. Earlier, Abdul Raffay Paracha won a gold medal for Pakistan at the 35th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) in the Philippines.

The recent win at INSO adds to Pakistan’s growing reputation in global science Olympiads. It reflects the country’s dedication to nurturing talent and promoting scientific research.
