First-Ever Woman Elected from Chitral

Independent candidate Suraya Bibi has made history by winning the elections for the PK-1 Chitral seat of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, becoming the first woman ever to be elected from Chitral to the provincial assembly. Suraya Bibi secured victory by defeating Shakeel Ahmed of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan-Fazl by a margin of more than 8,000 votes.

The PK-1 Chitral constituency comprises a total of 130,189 registered voters, with 60,645 women and 69,544 men. Suraya Bibi garnered support from over 18,000 voters in the constituency, leading to her victory.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) backed candidates have emerged victorious, positioning the party to form the government in the province. Suraya Bibi was also supported by PTI in her election campaign.

Unofficial results indicate that independent candidates have secured 84 seats, while Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Pakistan-Fazl and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML N) have won 7 and 5 seats respectively.
