As with other regions of the country, political parties and candidates in the Hazara division, particularly in Abbottabad district, are actively campaigning for support and votes ahead of the upcoming general elections for both national and provincial assembly seats.
In Abbottabad district, which encompasses two national assembly constituencies (NA-16 and NA-17) and four provincial assembly constituencies (PK-42, PK-43, PK-44, and PK-45), intense competition is expected among various candidates. Notably, the majority of voters are showing support for candidates affiliated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and those backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

In NA-16 Abbottabad-I, prominent candidates include former federal minister and deputy speaker of the National Assembly, Murtaza Javed Abbasi from PML-N, former Governor and Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan running independently, and PTI-backed independent candidate Ali Asghar Khan. A fierce contest is anticipated, particularly between Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan and Murtaza Javed Abbasi.
In NA-17 Abbottabad-II, strong contenders include Malik Mohabbat Awan representing PML-N, MNA Ali Khan Jadoon supported by PTI, and Pakistan Peoples Party’s nominee Syed Saleem.
For the provincial assembly seats, PK-42 Abbottabad-1 witnesses a tough competition between PML-N’s candidate Sardar Fareed Abbasi and former PTI lawmaker Nazir Abbasi, who is contesting independently.
In PK-43 Abbottabad-2, contenders include former Senator Barrister Javaid Abbasi as an independent candidate, PTI-backed independent candidate Rajab Ali Abbasi, PML-N’s candidate Khalid Rahman, and Jamaat-e-Islami’s candidate Abdul Razzaq Abbasi. A closely contested battle is expected, particularly between Barrister Javaid Abbasi and Rajab Ali Abbasi.
Overall, the political landscape in Abbottabad district is characterized by spirited competition and diverse candidates vying for electoral success in the upcoming general elections.
