Hamas’s Government Media Office in Gaza indicated that the airstrikes in al-Shati killed 24 people and in al-Tuffah area of Gaza City killed 18 people. Israel initiated the campaign in response to a major attack on southern Israel on October 7, which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths, mostly civilians, and 251 hostages.

Since then, Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry reported more than 37,551 deaths, without distinguishing between civilians and combatants, but identified 14,680 children, women, and elderly among the deceased by April’s end.
