This certification comes after nearly a century of efforts by Egypt to eliminate the deadly mosquito-borne disease. The recognition is granted when a country can prove that it has stopped malaria transmission for at least three consecutive years.
Globally, malaria remains a major health threat, claiming over 600,000 lives each year, with most of the victims being in Africa.
