Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has directed officials to make the new emergency centre at PIMS Hospital operational as soon as possible. The facility is expected to improve emergency medical services and reduce pressure on the country’s largest public healthcare institution.
The minister visited PIMS Hospital on Monday to review the progress of the project. During the visit, officials briefed him on the current status of construction, available medical facilities, and the remaining work needed before the centre opens.
According to the briefing, the 200-bed emergency centre has reached its final stage of completion. Officials said only finishing work, cleaning, and technical installations are left before the facility becomes fully functional.
Mustafa Kamal instructed the concerned authorities to complete all remaining work without compromising quality. He stressed that every part of the project should meet high standards before the centre begins receiving patients.
The minister said the growing number of patients visiting PIMS Hospital has increased the need for additional emergency services. He noted that the new facility would help provide faster treatment and improve patient care.
He also directed officials to speed up the completion of the PC-4 documentation process. According to the minister, delays in paperwork should not prevent the early opening of the emergency centre.
Officials shared details of the new facility during the briefing. The emergency centre will include a 30-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and a 10-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). These units will provide specialized care for critically ill patients.
The project will also feature two major operation theatres and two minor operation theatres. These additions are expected to improve the hospital’s ability to handle emergency surgeries and urgent medical procedures.
Health officials believe the expanded emergency department will reduce waiting times and improve access to medical treatment. The new infrastructure is also expected to strengthen the hospital’s emergency response capacity.
During the visit, the minister said the federal government remains committed to improving public healthcare facilities across the country. He added that practical measures are being taken to modernize hospitals and expand healthcare services for the public.
The government considers emergency healthcare a key part of the national health system. Projects such as the new emergency centre are intended to improve treatment for patients who require immediate medical attention.
Once completed, the new facility at PIMS Hospital will increase the hospital’s capacity to manage emergency cases more effectively. It is expected to provide better healthcare services for thousands of patients who visit the hospital each year.
