HBO is preparing to bring the Harry Potter novels to television with a new major series. The show is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max on December 25.

The first season will adapt Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The novel is the first book in J.K. Rowling’s popular fantasy series.

The opening season will introduce viewers to the Wizarding World and its main characters. It will also tell the story of Harry Potter and his arrival at Hogwarts.

HBO CEO Casey Bloys has already watched the complete first season. He shared positive comments about the upcoming adaptation during an interview with Bloomberg.

Bloys said he was very happy with the season after watching it. He also expressed confidence in the work completed by the production team.

The new Harry Potter series is expected to follow the original books closely. HBO plans to adapt one novel across each season.

This approach could allow the series to include more details from the books. Some of these details were not included in the previous Warner Bros. films.

Francesca Gardiner is serving as the showrunner for the television adaptation. She has previously worked on productions including Succession and Killing Eve.

Mark Mylod is also involved in the project as director and executive producer. The series will feature an original score from renowned composer Hans Zimmer.

Meanwhile, production on the second season is already underway. Several new casting announcements have also been made for the upcoming season.

Rafe Spall has joined the cast as Arthur Weasley. Molly Hewitt-Richards will portray Moaning Myrtle.

Jasper Ambrose has been cast as Colin Creevey. Billy Barratt will play the younger version of Tom Riddle.

Lenny Rush is set to voice Dobby in the series. Bonnie Hill will also take over the role of Ginny Weasley for the second season.

Hill will replace Gracie Cochrane, who is leaving the series after its first season. Cochrane previously announced her departure due to unforeseen circumstances.

Another major casting development involved Gilderoy Lockhart. Nicholas Hoult was initially announced for the role in season two.

However, Hoult later exited the project because of scheduling conflicts. Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington subsequently joined the series as Lockhart.

Harington is also familiar with the character through his previous work. He provided the voice for Lockhart in an Audible audiobook.

The upcoming Harry Potter adaptation is being developed as a long-form television series. Its season-by-season structure will follow the original novels.
