SIMs Linked to Expired CNICs to Face Blocking

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Interior, Mohsin Naqvi, took significant steps on Wednesday to enhance security measures and streamline administrative processes related to identity verification and documentation. Presiding over a meeting at Nadra headquarters, he issued directives to block mobile SIM cards issued on invalid and expired identity cards, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity of identity verification systems.

In addition to this, Minister Naqvi also instructed for the free-of-cost issuance of death certificates, recognizing the importance of facilitating citizens during times of bereavement. During his visit to all wings of Nadra, the Minister emphasized the need to expand Nadra’s presence across the country, drawing inspiration from the model police stations established in Punjab. He directed authorities to establish Nadra offices nationwide to ensure accessibility and efficiency in citizen services.

Ensuring the security of citizens’ data was highlighted as a top priority by Minister Naqvi. He stressed the importance of implementing robust security measures to safeguard sensitive information and prevent unauthorized access. Furthermore, the Minister emphasized the need to leverage mobile platforms to provide additional facilities for the convenience of the public. He underscored the importance of effective utilization of social media to promote Nadra’s initiatives and engage with the community.

During the meeting, the Nadra chairman briefed Minister Naqvi about Nadra’s Roadmap 2024-25, which includes plans for modernizing security architecture, conducting cybersecurity audits, enhancing employee cybersecurity awareness, and implementing the Nadra Strategic Plan. These initiatives aim to strengthen Nadra’s capabilities and enhance its effectiveness in serving the citizens of Pakistan.
