ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary leader in the Senate, Ali Zafar, on Saturday said that negotiations with the government are not possible at this stage, citing clear directions from the party founder.
However, the senior PTI leader emphasized that “doors to dialogue should not be closed” in the long run, leaving room for future engagement.
PTI founder’s stance on talks
Speaking to a private news channel, Senator Ali Zafar confirmed that the PTI founder has instructed the party not to engage in any negotiations for now. He said discussions will only take place if the former prime minister changes his overall political strategy.
By-election decision still undecided
Commenting on the upcoming by-elections, Zafar said the party has not yet reached a final decision on participation. He explained that PTI leaders are divided, with some supporting a boycott while others favour contesting.
“In my personal opinion, we should fight the election. Leaving the field open is not the right choice,” Ali Zafar added.
Legal fight for Senate opposition leader slot
The PTI senator also highlighted that the party will continue its legal struggle to secure the opposition leader’s position in the Senate. The matter remains pending before the courts, and PTI insists that its parliamentary strength justifies the slot.
Dialogue versus boycott
Despite the PTI founder’s firm stance against talks, Ali Zafar maintained a softer approach. He suggested that keeping communication channels open could benefit the party in the future.
“Negotiations are not possible at the moment, but in my view, dialogue should never be permanently ruled out,” he remarked.
The statements reflect PTI’s cautious strategy as it balances between political boycott and future engagement, with Ali Zafar emerging as a voice advocating flexibility.
