Emily Blunt has shared new insights about her co-star and friend Dwayne Johnson, revealing a softer side of the action star.
In a recent conversation with Net-a-Porter, the Devil Wears Prada actress praised Johnson’s strength while highlighting the depth beneath his public image.
Blunt explained that many people only see Dwayne Johnson as “The Rock,” a larger-than-life figure, but there is much more to him. She said he carries a “well of life experience, pain, struggle, and resilience” that has rarely been shown to the public.
The actress noted that maintaining such a powerful persona can be “heavy” for Johnson, despite the admiration he receives worldwide.
Blunt also reflected on their work together in The Smashing Machine, where Johnson portrays former UFC fighter Mark Kerr. She believes the role has given him a chance to show his emotional side.
“I think this has been life-changing for him,” Blunt said. “It’s moving to watch someone discover what they’re capable of, both as a friend and as an actor.”
According to her, the film allowed Dwayne Johnson to step away from his typical action-hero image and explore vulnerability on screen. She described it as a rare and powerful transformation for the actor.
Johnson, who first gained fame in WWE before becoming one of Hollywood’s highest-paid stars, has often been seen as a symbol of strength and toughness. However, Blunt’s comments suggest that his upcoming role may present fans with a more personal and emotional side of the actor.
With The Smashing Machine set to release soon, audiences will get to see a different dimension of Dwayne Johnson, beyond the strong exterior that has defined much of his career.
