Relief and rehabilitation efforts are ongoing in flood-hit areas of Gilgit-Baltistan after recent devastation caused by heavy rains.
Government spokesperson Faizullah Firaq said relief camps have been established for affected families in Tali Das. He confirmed that progress has been made in restoring clean water, electricity, and communication systems. Work has also started on the restoration of the damaged Ghizer Highway.
Firaq stated that the only long-term solution for the displaced residents of Tali Das is the construction of a substitute village. The provincial government, in collaboration with the federal government, has agreed to begin this project.
The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan has directed all departments to speed up rehabilitation work. Authorities are focused on rebuilding infrastructure to bring normalcy back to the affected areas.
Firaq also reported that the water level in the artificial lake formed in Tali Das is slowly receding. However, in Dain, a population of 3,000 remains cut off due to the destruction of the old bridge. Temporary boats are being used to ensure movement until full restoration.
Clean water supply in Dain has been restored, while electricity has been partially reconnected. Efforts to fully restore power are still in progress.
The spokesperson highlighted the bravery of local shepherds who risked their lives to rescue people during the floods. On the Prime Ministerβs orders, these shepherds have been sent to Islamabad, where they will be honored. A ceremony will soon be held at the Chief Ministerβs Secretariat to award them with shields and certificates.
Firaq assured that the government of Gilgit-Baltistan will continue rehabilitation work until every affected family is fully supported and resettled.
