Government Orders Rapid Progress on Five Major Motorway and Highway Projects

ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to speed up work on five major motorway and highway projects. The directive was issued during a recent high-level meeting focused on national infrastructure development.

The projects include the Karachi-Quetta-Chaman (N-25) highway, M-6, M-10, and the Naran-Kaghan route. These routes are critical for trade, tourism, and interprovincial connectivity.

The NHA will invest Rs. 150 billion from its resources during the current fiscal year. Out of this, Rs. 100 billion has been allocated to the N-25 highway in Balochistan. Work on this project is expected to begin soon.

Aleem Khan emphasized that all new motorway projects must include at least six lanes. This is to ensure smooth traffic flow and long-term utility. He also stated that the government will utilize public-private partnerships to attract investment and alleviate the burden on public funds.

The minister stated that NHA’s increasing revenue is a sign of strong performance. He urged officials to deliver fast and visible results. The goal is to complete at least 90% of the key projects by the end of this year.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to inaugurate completed sections once major milestones are reached. These road projects are seen as a step towards boosting economic activity and improving connectivity across Pakistan.

Aleem Khan also approved all pending proposals for highway development in Gilgit-Baltistan. He highlighted the need for fair and balanced infrastructure planning that addresses the needs of all regions.

He directed that project planning must consider regional development priorities. The focus will remain on reducing travel time, improving road safety, and supporting national trade routes.

The government’s strong push for road infrastructure aims to uplift remote areas, create jobs, and support economic growth.

With these developments, the NHA is set to play a leading role in transforming Pakistan’s transport network.
