An Israeli strike on Qatari soil has sparked international outrage, raising fears of a breakdown in ongoing ceasefire talks. The rare operation targeted Hamas leaders in Doha, killing five members and a Qatari security officer, according to local authorities.

Israel Defends the Operation
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted the Israeli strike was “fully justified.” He said the mission targeted senior Hamas officials linked to the October 7, 2023 assault on Israel.
Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the order came after deadly attacks in Jerusalem and Gaza. Israeli media reported that 15 fighter jets launched 10 munitions at residential buildings in Doha’s northern Katara district. Hamas said the assassination attempt failed but admitted five members, including Humam al-Hayya, were killed.
Trump Expresses Concern
Former US President Donald Trump expressed unease, saying he was “not thrilled” with the strike. He emphasized the importance of hostage recovery but warned that such unilateral action strained relations with allies.
White House officials later clarified that Trump’s envoy had informed Qatar shortly before the operation. However, Qatari officials strongly denied receiving any advance warning.
Qatar Condemns the Attack
Qatar’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani called the action “state terrorism” and a violation of sovereignty. The Emir also described it as a reckless breach of international law in a call with Trump.
Hamas Reaction
Hamas condemned the Israeli strike, calling it a “heinous crime” aimed at sabotaging peace efforts. The group accused both Israel and the US of undermining negotiations through military escalation.
