The NDMA has issued a new weather alert, warning of heavy rainfall from Monday to Wednesday across multiple regions of Punjab. Officials said the fresh spell could worsen the already critical flood situation in northeastern, central, and southern districts of the province.
According to the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC), major urban centers, including Rawalpindi and Islamabad, are likely to face significant impacts.
The NDMA highlighted that Murree, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, and Hafizabad face the highest risk. In these districts, intense rainfall may trigger flash floods and damage local infrastructure.
The situation could also deteriorate in other parts of Punjab. Districts such as Chiniot, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Layyah, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan have also been placed on alert.
Authorities warned that heavy rainfall in upstream catchment areas could increase river flows, leading to dangerous surges at Marala Headworks. Low-lying areas near the rivers may face serious threats of flooding if water levels continue to rise.
The NDMA has advised residents in vulnerable districts to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and keep a safe distance from rivers, streams, and flood-prone locations.
It also directed local administrations and emergency services to stay prepared with timely precautionary measures. Officials urged the public to cooperate with rescue teams and follow safety advisories to minimize risks to life and property.
This latest warning comes as Pakistan continues to face repeated flood challenges during the ongoing monsoon season, further highlighting the urgent need for preventive action.
