The Sindh government and the World Bank have agreed to enhance cooperation in key areas, with a focus on health and education.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and newly appointed World Bank Country Director Bolormaa Amgaabazar in Karachi on Tuesday.
According to officials, the discussion highlighted several World Bankโassisted projects. These include initiatives to improve school enrollment, particularly in primary and middle education. The Chief Minister emphasized that boosting access to education remains a top priority for his government.
The meeting also focused on revenue generation measures. Both sides agreed to strengthen efforts for the collection of agricultural tax, sales tax on services, and property tax. Officials stated that these steps are essential to improve Sindhโs financial resources and ensure sustainable development.
Murad Ali Shah expressed appreciation for the World Bankโs support in the province. He stressed that health and education reforms are crucial for the progress of Sindh and highlighted the need for continued partnership.
The World Bank Country Director assured the Chief Minister of the Bankโs commitment to working closely with the provincial government. She also discussed future opportunities for collaboration in other development sectors.
Observers note that this partnership could help address long-standing issues in Sindh, including gaps in public health services and education infrastructure. The focus on tax reforms is also expected to strengthen provincial revenues, enabling better delivery of public services.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to joint projects and long-term cooperation aimed at the welfare of Sindhโs people.
