Thousands of Afghans Repatriated Through Torkham Border

The process of sending Afghan nationals back to their country is continuing from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), with thousands crossing the Torkham border daily. According to the provincial Home Department, 2,491 people returned to Afghanistan on September 8 alone, including 746 undocumented individuals.

So far, more than 743,000 Afghans repatriated from KP, marking a significant part of the nationwide process. The authorities said that this figure includes both undocumented individuals and those holding official registration cards.

Nationwide data shows that 605,992 undocumented Afghan residents have been repatriated. In addition, 89,467 Proof of Registration (PoR) cardholders and 48,254 Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders were also sent back. Most of these individuals crossed into Afghanistan through the Torkham border.

The Home Department confirmed that the repatriation process is not limited to KP. From other regions, including Islamabad, Punjab, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, around 30,694 Afghan nationals have also been repatriated.

Officials stated that the repatriation drive is being monitored closely to ensure safe and organized movement. Special arrangements at border crossings have been made to facilitate families returning to their homeland.

The large number of Afghans repatriated highlights the government’s ongoing policy of sending back foreign nationals residing illegally or without valid documents. Authorities have emphasized that the process will continue in phases until all undocumented residents return.

Observers believe that while the repatriation reduces pressure on local resources, it also raises humanitarian concerns, as many families face difficulties after returning to Afghanistan. Aid agencies have urged both countries to ensure support for those affected.

With over 743,000 Afghans repatriated from KP alone, officials say the drive represents one of the largest repatriation efforts in the region in recent years.
