US President Trump expressed concern on Friday over India and Russia’s closer relations with China following a recent summit.
In a social media post, Trump wrote, “Looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest, China. May they have a long and prosperous future together!” The post included a photo of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the summit in Tianjin.
The summit, hosted by Xi Jinping, brought together more than 20 leaders of non-Western countries as part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). During the event, Modi and Putin were seen holding hands before standing beside Xi, signaling a growing alignment with Beijing.
Trump’s remarks highlight a perceived split between the US and key countries in Asia and Russia, at a time when China is asserting a stronger global influence. Earlier this week, Trump said he was “very disappointed” in Putin but was not concerned about the increasing Russia-China partnership.
The Indian foreign ministry declined to comment on Trump’s post, while representatives from Beijing and Moscow were not immediately available for statements.
Trump has previously voiced frustration over US-India relations, especially amid trade tensions and strategic disagreements. His latest comment reflects growing concern in Washington about China’s expanding influence in global politics.
Analysts say Trump’s social media post underscores the challenge the US faces in maintaining strong ties with key global partners while China continues to strengthen its alliances in Asia and beyond.
The SCO summit in Tianjin marked a visible moment of cooperation between India, Russia, and China, further emphasizing the changing dynamics in international diplomacy.
Trump’s reaction signals that the US may need to reassess its foreign strategy in response to these developments.
