Reports indicate that Khan and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal had disagreements, which led to Khan resigning at the prime minister’s request.

Khan, previously Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue, was first appointed Deputy Chairman in August 2019 under the PTI government and reappointed for three years.

After the PTI government’s removal in April 2022, Khan resigned due to conflicts with the newly appointed planning minister, Ahsan Iqbal. Despite resigning, Khan was reappointed to the position in August 2023.
