As the nation approaches the elections on February 8, a surge in violence, including acts of terrorism, has unfolded in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Prominent political figures have received threats, posing a significant challenge for law enforcement agencies tasked with maintaining peace and stability in the region.
Recent incidents of violence in Balochistan include a fatal blast in Quetta, hand-grenade attacks in Jaffarabad and Turbat, and targeted attacks on the offices of PPP and PML-N candidates. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) expressed deep concern over these terror attacks, demanding an immediate report from the Balochistan chief secretary and inspector general.
In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) reported threats issued to 15 political figures, including Mohsin Dawar, Imtiaz Qureshi, Senator Hidayatullah, Amir Muqam, Pir Musawir Shah, Shah Muhammad, Malik Adnan Wazir, and Ehsanullah, among others. The CTD directed concerned districts to enhance the security of the listed politicians in light of the threats.
