The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to hold a key meeting today to confirm the moon sighting for the month of Sha’ban. The meeting will be chaired by Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Committee.
Officials said the final decision will be made after reviewing moon sighting testimonies from across Pakistan. Citizens are eagerly awaiting the announcement, which will officially mark the start of Sha’ban 1447 Hijri.
Astronomers have already offered their predictions for the new lunar month. According to experts, the 1st of Sha’ban is expected to fall on January 21, 2026. Renowned astronomer Professor Dr. Faheem stated there is no chance of moon sighting on January 19.
SUPARCO, Pakistan’s space research organization, has also confirmed that January 21 is the most likely date for the start of Sha’ban. In an official statement, the organization revealed that the new moon for Sha’ban 1447 Hijri will be born on January 19 at 12:52 AM.
The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee relies on both traditional moon sighting methods and astronomical data to make its official declaration. Once verified, the decision will be communicated nationwide through press releases and media channels.
Observers note that the Committee’s verification process involves collecting multiple testimonies from different regions to ensure accuracy. This method aims to avoid confusion and maintain consistency across Pakistan regarding the lunar calendar.
As the nation watches closely, religious scholars and communities are preparing for the start of Sha’ban, which holds significant importance in Islamic tradition. The official announcement of moon sighting will allow mosques, traders, and families to finalize their plans for the upcoming month.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is expected to issue the official statement later today, marking the beginning of Sha’ban and providing clarity to millions of citizens across Pakistan.
