Clashes Erupt in Rawalpindi Amid PTI Protests

Rawalpindi

Violent clashes erupted in Rawalpindi on Saturday as supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party protested and attempted to reach Liaquat Bagh.

Tensions escalated around Committee Chowk when PTI workers removed police barriers, chanting anti-government slogans and marching towards Murree Road. In response, police deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd, resulting in violent confrontations along the busy thoroughfare.

The situation intensified when PTI supporters forced police to retreat at Rialto Chowk, breaking through barriers and advancing towards Murree Road. The arrests of senior PTI leaders, including Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Salman Akram Raja, further inflamed the anger of their supporters.

In an effort to control the unrest, the Rawalpindi administration sealed off key areas of the city using containers, effectively blocking major roads and suspending metro bus services. The clashes have led to significant disruptions, affecting traffic and access to essential services as authorities brace for continued protests.
