LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a 10-day Basant festival across the province. The festival will mark the arrival of the new year 2027.

According to the approved schedule, Basant celebrations will begin on January 29, 2027. The festivities will continue until February 7, 2027.

However, celebrations will remain suspended on February 5. The day will be observed as Kashmir Solidarity Day.

CM Maryam directed the relevant authorities to make arrangements for the extended Basant celebrations. The event has been planned as a New Year gift for the people of Punjab.

The decision follows the return of Basant to Punjab after a gap of 25 years. The traditional festival had remained suspended for a long period before its revival.

Authorities have also focused on safety measures ahead of Basant 2027. Lahore officials have urged residents to follow all required safety instructions.

The district administration has taken additional steps to control the movement of kite-flying materials. A complete ban has been imposed on transporting such materials through courier companies and transport services in Lahore.

The restrictions are aimed at preventing illegal kite-flying materials from entering the city. Authorities have warned transporters and drivers against violating the orders.

According to a notice issued by the Lahore Deputy Commissioner, violators may face criminal action. An FIR can be registered against those found transporting illegal materials.

Their driving licences may also be suspended under the orders. The authorities can further confiscate the materials being transported.

Joint teams of police and the district administration are conducting checks across Lahore. These teams are monitoring major entry points around the clock.

The checking points include Ravi, Thokar, Shahdara, Babu Sabu and Saggian. Officials are working to stop illegal kite-flying materials from entering Lahore.

The administration has also asked citizens to report suspicious transportation or supply activities. Residents can contact the Deputy Commissioner’s control room for complaints.

The control room can be reached at 0307-0002345. Authorities have encouraged residents to cooperate with enforcement teams.

CM Maryam has directed officials to ensure that the festival arrangements remain organized. Safety measures are expected to remain an important part of the celebrations.

The 10-day schedule will provide residents with several days to participate in Basant activities. However, the February 5 pause will ensure observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day.

Officials are expected to continue monitoring kite-related activities before and during the festival. The measures are intended to reduce risks and prevent violations of safety rules.
