Commonwealth Observer: Uneducated Voters in Distress as Major Party Deprived of Bat Symbol

Head of the Commonwealth Observer Group (COG), Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has raised concerns over the deprivation of the election symbol of a major party, creating challenges for ‘illiterate’ voters, as he briefed journalists in Islamabad following the observation of Pakistan’s general election on February 8.

Dr. Goodluck expressed condolences for the security officials who lost their lives in terror incidents during poll-related activities. Despite acknowledging some irregularities in certain areas, he praised the professionalism of the polling staff.

He mentioned that although the Election Management System (EMS) was a commendable attempt, it faced challenges in performing effectively on the polling day. Dr. Goodluck assured that further details regarding additional irregularities would be included in the comprehensive report.

In conclusion, he congratulated the country for successfully conducting the elections and expressed hope that the entire electoral process would conclude smoothly.
