Pakistan’s capital is gearing up to host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference next week, with strict security protocols in place. Key roads in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi will be closed to ensure safety during the event.
A comprehensive traffic plan has been laid out for the summit, scheduled from October 14 to 16. Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Benish Fatima has announced the deployment of over a dozen DSPs, 73 senior traffic wardens, 536 traffic wardens and assistants, along with more than 600 officers to manage traffic.

Rawalpindi Traffic Plan for the SCO Summit
To accommodate VVIP movements in Rawalpindi, traffic will be restricted between Chauhan Chowk and Airport Road. Heavy vehicles will also be barred from entering the city as part of the diversion strategy.
Traffic heading to Koral will be redirected from Chauhan Chowk via Rawal Road, Shaheen Chowk, and Murree Road. Vehicles from Jhanda Mor to Amar Chowk will be diverted towards Scheme 3 or Kachari Chowk, while those traveling from Amar Chowk to Chauhan Chowk must use the Rahimabad route.
For drivers heading from Annexe Chowk to Amar Chowk, the detour will be through Jhanda Road to Rashid Minhas Road. Additional diversions include traffic from Mushtaq Baig Shaheed Road to Airport Road being redirected to Kachhari Chowk, and traffic from Mall Road to Kachhari Chowk will pass through Panj Sattar and Shalimar Chowk.
