The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has announced the upcoming launch of a new e-immigration app to facilitate faster airport processing for travellers. Mustafa Hameed Malik, Director of the FIAโs Integrated Border Management System (IBMS), shared details of the app in a recent social media video.
Malik explained that the e-immigration app is designed to reduce long queues at airports and streamline passenger clearance. Travellers will input their personal and travel information directly into the app, which will be verified through FIA databases, including passport and national identity records.
โThe e-immigration app allows passengers to pre-enter flight and ticket details. All data will be verified automatically, helping them skip long queues,โ Malik said. He emphasized that the system integrates AI and machine learning to create passenger profiles and assess risk efficiently.
In addition to the app, FIA is installing electronic gates (e-gates) at major airports. These automated gates will allow eligible passengers to scan their passports and complete immigration within seconds without human interaction. This initiative reflects a push toward technology-driven, secure border management.
Malik noted that the IBMS is focused on strengthening immigration controls, improving inter-agency coordination, and curbing illegal departures. The e-immigration app will help the Risk Assessment Unit (RAU) identify high-risk passengers and prevent unlawful exits through smuggling or other illegal means.
Under the new system, travellers using the e-immigration app will have their data automatically synced with the IBMS. Machine learning algorithms will flag potential risks, generate passenger profiles, and streamline the boarding process for low-risk individuals.
FIA officials say the initiative is part of a broader modernization plan spearheaded by DG FIA Riffat Mukhtar, who advocates the integration of artificial intelligence into all FIA systems. The launch of the e-immigration app is expected to enhance airport efficiency, improve security, and offer a smoother experience for travellers across Pakistan.
With the app, passengers can complete most immigration procedures digitally before reaching the airport, marking a significant step toward smart, AI-powered border management.
