Fire At Pakistan Stock Exchange Extinguished, Trading Currently Suspended

A fire erupted on the fourth floor of the Pakistan Stock Exchange building in Karachi, but was swiftly extinguished by the Karachi Fire Brigade using hydrants. Trading at the exchange was suspended following the incident. The Chief Fire Officer confirmed that the fire on the fourth floor had been completely put out, and cooling efforts were underway.

Fortunately, there were no casualties reported in the incident. However, trading terminals of several brokers had to be closed due to the fire. Initially, the market had been opened but was closed again shortly after.

The Stock Exchange administration announced that the market would remain closed until further notice. Fire brigade vehicles continued to work on extinguishing the fire at the PSX building, affecting the pre-opening activities of PSX-100 trading.

All traders were safely evacuated from the building. The fire was specifically reported to have occurred on the fourth floor of the Pakistan Stock Exchange building.

In a separate incident in 2020, Pakistani law enforcement agencies thwarted a terrorist attack targeting the Pakistan Stock Exchange in Karachi. All four terrorists involved were killed in the encounter, while four law enforcement personnel lost their lives in the operation.
