ational Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a Flash Flood warning for Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir following forecasts of heavy rainfall from July 18 to July 23. Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert as intense rain may trigger flooding, landslides, and disruptions across several regions.
According to the NDMA’s National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), officials are closely monitoring weather conditions and conducting advance assessments to identify potential risks. Relevant government departments have also been informed to ensure timely response if emergency situations develop.
The NDMA warned that continuous rainfall could increase the risk of Flash Flood incidents in local rivers, mountain streams, and rain-fed areas. In Gilgit-Baltistan, medium to high flooding levels are possible in rivers and seasonal streams due to persistent rainfall.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the authority said upper and central districts face a higher risk of flooding. Mountain torrents and seasonal waterways may overflow if heavy rain continues over the coming days.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir is also expected to experience a significant rise in water levels. The NDMA said the Neelum, Jhelum, Poonch, and nearby rivers could see increased flow, raising the possibility of local flooding.
Along with the Flash Flood alert, the NDMA has issued a landslide warning for Azad Jammu and Kashmir from July 19 to July 24. Districts including Neelum, Haveli, Poonch, Muzaffarabad, and Bagh are considered to be at high risk because of continuous rainfall.
The authority also identified a medium landslide risk for the mountainous areas of Kotli, Sudhnoti, Mirpur, and Bhimber. Officials warned that landslides may block roads and disrupt traffic on important highways connecting Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Kahuta, and Bhimber.
Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in hilly areas. People should stay away from riverbanks, mountain slopes, and other vulnerable locations during periods of heavy rainfall.
The NDMA has also issued flood alerts for Punjab and northeastern Balochistan from July 17 to July 23. Heavy rain may cause flooding in seasonal rivers and mountainous regions across both provinces.
Districts including Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Murree, and Galiyat could experience flooding in storm drains and seasonal streams. In Balochistan, Zhob, Sherani, Musakhel, Loralai, Harnai, Sibi, Kohlu, and Jaffarabad are among the areas that may be affected.
Officials also expect water levels to rise in the Chenab River, Ravi River, and connected waterways. Residents living in low-lying areas near these rivers have been urged to remain cautious and follow official instructions.
Urban flooding is also possible in several major cities, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Sheikhupura. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, low-lying areas of Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, and Charsadda may also experience inundation.
The NDMA has directed all relevant departments to keep rescue teams, emergency equipment, and response machinery on standby. Citizens have been advised to avoid flooded roads, storm drains, and dangerous routes during heavy rainfall.
