Lahore’s authorities have finalized a comprehensive transport plan for Basant, offering free travel across the city to ensure safe and smooth commuting during the festival. The initiative is aimed at helping citizens enjoy Basant festivities without transport hassles.
The Punjab Mass Transit Authority, Punjab Transport Company, and private rider companies coordinated the plan. Citizens can use the Metrobus service and the Orange Line Metro Train for free during Basant.
Citywide Coverage on 24 Routes
Free transport will operate on 24 routes across Lahore. Authorities have deployed 228 buses on feeder routes and 64 Metrobus vehicles on main corridors. To further expand capacity, 54 buses from government colleges and 73 buses from universities will join the service.
The Orange Line Metro Train can carry around 250,000 passengers daily during Basant, while Metrobus services will accommodate approximately 87,000 travelers each day, including the Gajjumta to Shahdara route. Other key routes include Rana Town to Railway Station, RA Bazaar to Chungi, and Canal to Jinnah Terminal.
Expanded Feeder and Terminal Routes
Additional routes cover areas such as Railway Station to Gulshan Ravi, Wahdat Road to Qurtaba Chowk, and Pura Ana Kahna to RA Bazaar. In total, authorities expect 516,000 people to benefit from free bus transport daily during Basant. Around 5,000 specially branded rickshaws will also provide free rides to citizens.
Kite and String Supply Restrictions Eased
In a major move, the Lahore district administration has lifted restrictions on ordering kites and strings from other cities. Only registered kite makers, traders, and manufacturers can place such orders, and all imported items must display QR codes. The change has already increased demand and prices in local markets ahead of Basant.
