Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has completed hearings on objections and petitions related to seven constituencies and has reserved its verdict. Officials said the decision is expected to be announced soon.
Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz presided over the hearings. The proceedings focused on electoral objections, complaints, and requests for vote recounting submitted after the recent polls.
According to officials, the Election Commission reviewed all relevant petitions before reserving its judgment. The final decision is expected to clarify the status of the affected constituencies.
The matter relates to the Gilgit-Baltistan Election held on June 7. After the polling process concluded, unofficial and non-final results were released. However, the Election Commission decided to withhold the results of seven constituencies due to pending objections and petitions.
Several candidates and political parties had challenged the preliminary outcomes. Some petitions called for recounting votes, while others raised concerns regarding the electoral process.
Based on the withheld unofficial results, PML-N candidate Abdul Jahan was declared successful in GBA-19 Ghizer II. In GBA-19 Ghizer I, PPP candidate Syed Jalal Shah emerged as the winning candidate.
In GBA-3 Gilgit III, independent candidate Sohail Abbas was reported as the successful contender. Meanwhile, PPP candidate Raja Nasir Ali Khan secured victory in GBA-10 Skardu IV.
Similarly, independent candidate Muhammad Dilpazeer was declared the winner in GBA-15 Diamer I. In GBA-5 Nagar I, PPP candidate Zulfiqar Ali Murad was reported to have won the seat.
Despite these preliminary outcomes, the results remain unofficial until the Election Commission issues its final ruling. The reserved judgment will determine whether the announced results stand or if any changes are required.
Political parties, candidates, and voters are closely watching the situation. The decision is expected to have an impact on the final composition of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
The Election Commission has emphasized that all objections and recount requests were examined according to legal procedures. Officials said the aim is to ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
