Heavy Rains Expected in Punjab Capital Due to Approaching Westerly Wave

A trough of a westerly wave has brought rains and snowfall to various regions, including Lahore. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in parts of the country, with Lahore experiencing light drizzles in different localities. Cold winds are contributing to a chilly atmosphere in the city.

The Meteorological Office has issued an advisory, stating that a westerly wave is affecting western and upper parts of the country and is likely to strengthen in the next 12 hours. Rain, wind and thunderstorms are expected in several areas, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, and Kasur. Additionally, Murree, Galliyat and surrounding areas are predicted to experience rain, wind, thunderstorms and snowfall.

The temperature in Lahore today ranges from a minimum of 12 degrees Celsius to a maximum of around 20 degrees Celsius. Intermittent rainfall is expected throughout the day and the humidity level is anticipated to be around 90 percent.

Despite the showers, the air quality in Lahore remains unhealthy, with the PM2.5 concentration being 31 times the WHO annual air quality guideline value.

The Meteorological Office forecasts a new westerly wave affecting upper and central parts of the country, leading to moderate to heavy rain, wind, thunderstorms and snowfall over the hills in various regions, including Islamabad and Punjab, from February 17 night to February 21.
