IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Karachi After Passenger Falls ill

An IndiGo Airlines flight from New Delhi to Jeddah was diverted to Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport after a 55-year-old male passenger fell critically ill while the aircraft was in Pakistani airspace. The passenger’s condition worsened rapidly during the flight, despite the crew administering oxygen. The pilot requested an emergency landing, and Karachi Air Traffic Control swiftly granted permission, allowing the Airbus A320 to land.

A medical team from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) boarded the aircraft upon arrival and provided immediate assistance to stabilize the passenger, who was later escorted off the plane after being treated. Sources confirmed that the flight, initially bound for Jeddah, was redirected back to New Delhi after the incident.

This incident occurred just a month after Karachi air traffic control had briefly been put on alert for a bomb threat on Air India flight AI147, which was en route from Ahmedabad to London. Despite the threat, the captain continued the flight and no emergency landing was requested. When such threats occur, international protocols dictate that affected planes must land in an isolated area away from airport facilities for security reasons.
