Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari addressed the Punjab Assembly, criticizing the sensationalism surrounding an alleged incident at a private college. She emphasized that the parents of the child involved have confirmed that no such incident, particularly rape, occurred, stating the child was injured from falling down the stairs.
Bukhari disclosed that there were three girls enrolled at the college, and after visiting their homes, the parents denied any allegations of a crime. She revealed that a security guard had been detained as part of the investigation and condemned the use of the term “rape” on social media, questioning the ethics of those exploiting the issue.
The minister added that the hospital records were reviewed, with no evidence supporting the claims of abuse. While expressing readiness to take action if the girl came forward, Bukhari called for an end to the political exploitation of the incident. She also mentioned that a committee has been formed by the Chief Minister to report on the matter within 48 hours.
She stressed that political agendas should not overshadow the concerns of the affected parents and criticised the closure of the campus without proper evidence. Furthermore, she condemned the media’s role in sensationalizing the issue, stating that it was causing undue distress to the family.
