Islamabad Airport Radar Service Suspended, Raising Concerns Over Flight Operations

Radar Service at Islamabad International Airport was temporarily suspended on Monday due to scheduled repair work, according to sources quoted by 24NewsHD.

Officials said the maintenance work is expected to take around eight hours to complete. During this period, the Radar Service at the airport will remain unavailable while technical teams carry out the necessary repairs.

According to the available information, the suspension began at 10:00 am and is expected to continue until 6:00 pm. The maintenance has been planned to improve the airport’s radar system and ensure its proper functioning.

Despite the temporary suspension, flight operations are expected to continue. Authorities have already arranged an alternative system to avoid disruptions for passengers and airlines.

Sources said that radar monitoring for both domestic and international flights operating from Islamabad will be handled by Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport during the repair period. This temporary arrangement will allow air traffic controllers to continue guiding aircraft safely.

The decision to shift radar monitoring is aimed at maintaining smooth air traffic management while the repair work is underway in Islamabad. Aviation officials regularly use such backup systems during scheduled maintenance to ensure safety standards remain unchanged.

Passengers traveling through Islamabad International Airport are not expected to face major operational issues because of the temporary suspension. However, airlines and airport authorities may continue to monitor flight schedules closely throughout the maintenance period.

Airport officials have not reported any emergency situation linked to the repair work. The maintenance is described as a planned technical exercise designed to keep airport navigation equipment in reliable condition.

The Radar Service plays a key role in monitoring aircraft movements within controlled airspace. It helps air traffic controllers manage arrivals, departures, and aircraft routing while maintaining safe distances between flights.

By temporarily transferring radar responsibilities to Lahore, aviation authorities are ensuring that flight safety remains the top priority throughout the repair process. Such coordination between airports is a standard aviation practice during technical maintenance.

Once the repair work is completed, the radar system at Islamabad International Airport is expected to resume normal operations by 6:00 pm. Authorities have advised that all services should return to routine once the scheduled maintenance is successfully finished.
