Islamabad-Rawalpindi Roads Blocked Due to PTI, JI Protests; Containers Placed

Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police and other law enforcement agencies have blocked multiple routes in Islamabad-Rawalpindi, including the stretch from Faizabad to Murree Road on Islamabad’s expressway, by placing container blockades. This has caused significant traffic disruptions following protest calls by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).

Heavy contingents of police from New Town and Sadiqabad have been deployed to Faizabad. Half of the road leading to the expressway is closed, while the other half remains open. Under the Faizabad bridge on the expressway, containers have closed off half the roadway.

In related news, Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a sit-in at D-Chowk, prompting police and administration in Islamabad to mobilize. Many roads leading to the Red Zone, including D-Chowk, were sealed with containers late last night.

Sources report that the Islamabad Police have started placing containers on both internal and external routes of the federal capital. In response, the Islamabad Traffic Police have issued an alternative traffic plan to mitigate disruptions.

Citizens are instructed to use the Korang Bridge route if Rawat Cross is closed. If Peshawar GT Road is closed, use the motorway. If Srinagar Highway G14 is closed, use Peshawar Road, GT Road, and Colonel Sher Khan Road. For Faizabad closures, use Shahri Park Road, and for zero point closures, use Faisal Avenue and Jinnah Avenue. If Serena Chowk is closed, use 7th Avenue, and for Embassy Road closures, use Shaheed-e-Millat Road.

Residents are advised to follow the alternative routes provided by the Islamabad Traffic Police to avoid inconvenience.
