Driver Released After Fatal Road Accident in Karachi DHA Area

KARACHI – A tragic road accident in Karachi claimed the life of a food delivery rider in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area. The incident occurred late at night near the Khayaban-e-Ittihad signal, police said.

According to officials, a speeding car lost control and struck 32-year-old Farhan, a resident of Thatta. He suffered serious head injuries and later died. The accident has sparked concern over road safety in Karachi.

Initial reports suggested that the driver fled the scene after briefly stopping. Witnesses claimed he pretended to offer help before leaving. This led to a police search in Karachi to locate the suspect.

Later, police confirmed that the driver, identified as Hasan Bhangwar, had been taken into custody. However, his detention was not disclosed for nearly 16 hours. This delay has raised questions about transparency in the handling of the Karachi accident case.

Police stated that the deceased’s family decided to pardon the accused “for the sake of Allah.” A written reconciliation agreement was signed by Farhan’s father, Gul Zaman. He reportedly described the incident as accidental and said the family would not pursue legal action.

Investigators said the driver claimed a motorcycle suddenly appeared in front of his car. Police estimated the vehicle’s speed at the time of the crash to be between 130 and 140 kilometres per hour. Allegations of overspeeding and signal violation have further fueled debate in Karachi.

There were also claims that the driver was underage and did not possess a valid driving licence. Authorities have not confirmed these details publicly. Questions remain about why the suspect was released without further legal proceedings.

The victim’s body was transported to Thatta for burial. Police officials in Karachi said they would contact the family again after the funeral.
