Karachi University Students Protest for Seventh Consecutive Day Against Fee Hikes

The student protests at Karachi University have entered their seventh day, with students continuing their demonstrations over issues such as fee hikes, inadequate facilities, and transportation challenges. The protests, led by the university’s students’ union, have disrupted normal operations, resulting in partial closures of administrative offices, the canteen, and academic departments. Additionally, university buses have been halted as part of the demonstrations.

The students are demanding several concessions, including a 50% reduction in late fees, the abolition of examination and re-admission fees, and repairs to the university’s deteriorating buses and classroom facilities. Despite discussions with Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, the protesters remain steadfast, stating they will continue their boycott of classes until their demands are fully met.

While the Vice Chancellor has reportedly agreed to some of the demands, the students’ union continues to push for more comprehensive solutions, citing ongoing dissatisfaction with the overall conditions at the university. The protests have garnered widespread support from various student organizations and departments across the university.
