The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has directed all departments to ensure complete readiness ahead of the upcoming Monsoon season.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi issued the instructions during a meeting on Friday. The meeting focused on the provinceโs Monsoon contingency plan and emergency preparedness.
The chief minister stressed the need for quick and coordinated action. He said no negligence or delays would be tolerated during the Monsoon season.
He ordered all departments to complete vulnerability mapping in high-risk areas by June 15. Authorities were also told to finish standard operating procedure training and conduct mock drills before that date.
Officials were directed to ensure emergency teams and machinery remain fully operational before heavy rainfall begins.
The meeting reviewed preparations for flooding, heavy rain, and other natural disasters. Officials said district emergency operation centers across the province will remain active around the clock.
Duty rosters have already been prepared to ensure immediate response during emergencies.
Authorities informed the meeting that daily monitoring of glacial lakes, rivers, and rainfall activity is already underway.
A large-scale cleanup campaign is also being carried out across the province. This includes clearing drains, culverts, sewerage lines, and seasonal waterways.
Officials said cleaning work has been completed in 4,099 out of 4,802 drains. Nearly 598 kilometers of drainage lines have also been cleared.
They added that 524 illegal encroachments out of 794 identified cases have already been removed to improve water flow during Monsoon rains.
Rescue 1122 officials told the meeting that the provincial contingency plan has been finalized.
Water rescue points are being set up in several districts. The chief minister ordered full verification of rescue boats, pumps, and other emergency equipment by June 15.
The health department has also been instructed to maintain sufficient medical supplies. These include medicines, IV fluids, ORS, anti-snake venom, and other emergency items.
Authorities will also pre-position relief goods such as tents, blankets, hygiene kits, and kitchen sets before the Monsoon season starts.
Community-based disaster management committees have been formed in nearly all districts. Officials confirmed that 1,214 out of 1,220 committees are already active.
The chief minister also ordered evacuation and first-response training to be completed by May 30.
As part of public awareness efforts, safety advisories and emergency helpline details will be shared across the province.

Section 144 will also be imposed in flood-prone areas to restrict bathing and fishing activities during the Monsoon season. Officials have been warned that delays in rescue operations will not be accepted.
