Lahore Traffic Police Expands Driving License Services for Rickshaw Drivers

LAHORE: The Lahore Traffic Police has expanded its Driving License services for rickshaw drivers by opening three new licensing centers across the city. The move aims to make the process easier and faster for commercial drivers.

According to Chief Traffic Officer Lahore, Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, rickshaw drivers can now apply for a commercial Driving License at four different locations. These include Manawan, Ichhra Licensing Center Town, Greater Iqbal Park, and Wapda Town.

Earlier, drivers had to visit only the Manawan center for their Driving License. This often caused long waiting times and extra travel for applicants. With the addition of three new centers, authorities expect the process to become more convenient.

The newly established centers will remain open from Thursday to Sunday. This schedule has been introduced to help drivers manage their visits more easily. Officials believe it will reduce overcrowding and improve service delivery.

The Lahore Traffic Police said the step is part of its effort to create a more accessible and citizen-friendly licensing system. It also aims to save time and cut unnecessary delays for rickshaw drivers.

The expansion comes as part of wider reforms to improve traffic management and transport safety in the city. Authorities said commercial drivers play an important role in daily transport, and easier access to a Driving License is essential.

In addition to the new centers, officials announced another safety measure for passengers. After completing the licensing process, rickshaws will be fitted with QR-code-based panic buttons.

These panic buttons are designed to improve passenger safety and provide quick emergency support if needed. The initiative reflects the departmentโ€™s focus on both driver facilitation and public security.
