LAHORE: CM Maryam Nawaz has introduced another step towards women’s empowerment by supporting rickshaw driving training for women in Punjab. The initiative aims to help women become financially independent and access new employment opportunities.

Following driving training for taxis and scooties, the Punjab Traffic Police has expanded its programme to include rickshaws. The move aims to provide women with additional skills to earn a living.

According to ARY News, the Punjab Traffic Police organised the training in collaboration with a private university. A total of 34 women received training at driving schools in Bahria Town and Manawan, Lahore.

The programme focuses on helping women develop practical driving skills. It also aims to create more employment opportunities for women in the transport sector.

CM Maryam Nawaz Supports Women’s Economic Empowerment

The initiative follows the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. It seeks to encourage women to pursue different professions and become self-reliant.

City Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi explained the purpose of the training programme. He said the initiative aims to create respectable employment opportunities for women.

According to Shirazi, the programme goes beyond teaching women how to drive. It also seeks to help them earn an independent income and improve their financial stability.

He explained that trained women can now consider rickshaw driving as a professional option. This could provide them with another way to support themselves and their families.

Shirazi also highlighted the role of women and men in society. He said both contribute to social development and the progress of the country.

Punjab Traffic Police Expands Women’s Driving Training

Before introducing rickshaw training, the Punjab Traffic Police had offered driving instruction for taxis and scooties. The latest expansion adds another transport option for participating women.

The programme provides practical training through designated driving schools. Its focus is to equip women with skills that could help them pursue employment.

CM Maryam Nawaz’s initiative reflects an effort to expand women’s participation in different professional fields. Rickshaw driving may offer opportunities to women seeking independent sources of income.

The training also challenges traditional expectations about employment in the transport sector. By learning to operate rickshaws, women can explore work beyond conventional job roles.

However, the programme’s longer-term impact will depend on employment opportunities and the ability of trained participants to enter the profession.

Officials Highlight the Importance of Financial Independence

CTO Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said the Lahore Traffic Police remained committed to supporting women’s economic independence. He highlighted the importance of respectable jobs and financial stability.

He also stressed that empowering women can contribute to broader social development. Access to professional skills can help women explore different career paths.

The training of 34 women marks the latest expansion of the Punjab Traffic Police’s driving programme. It provides participants with an opportunity to consider rickshaw driving as a potential profession.
