Maryam Nawaz Orders Province-Wide Plan to Ensure Clean Drinking Water Across Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan to provide clean drinking water to every household across the province. The instruction follows the successful implementation of the โ€œSuthra Punjabโ€ initiative.

The chief minister issued the directions while chairing a meeting of the Punjab Clean Water Authority. During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz asked officials to present a province-wide clean water supply plan within the next five days.

She emphasized that access to safe drinking water should become a priority in every district. The proposed plan will focus on improving water supply systems and expanding clean water services across Punjab.

Maryam Nawaz also ordered the restructuring and modernization of the Punjab Clean Water Authority. She directed officials to strengthen the institution both technically and administratively.

According to the instructions, the authority will receive modern technology, skilled human resources, and improved transport facilities. These measures are expected to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery.

Officials informed the meeting that reverse osmosis (RO) plants and advanced filtration systems will be installed according to regional needs. Different areas will receive water purification solutions based on local requirements.

The chief minister also instructed that every filtration plant should clearly display important information. This includes the operatorโ€™s name, contact number, and operating hours to improve transparency and public access.

The meeting also agreed to seek international consultancy services for future clean water projects. Officials plan to introduce Japanese and Chinese technologies to improve water purification and distribution systems across the province.

Special attention will be given to remote and underserved areas. The government plans to use mobile bottling plants to deliver safe drinking water where permanent infrastructure is not yet available.

Officials shared that operational bottling plants in Lahore are already serving more than 2,400 families every day. The chief minister welcomed the progress and called for similar improvements in other parts of Punjab.

Maryam Nawaz also ordered strict monitoring of all vehicles and facilities operated by the Punjab Clean Water Authority. She directed officials to ensure proper maintenance and efficient use of government resources.

The chief minister instructed authorities to repair and maintain all 5,734 existing water filtration plants across Punjab. She also directed the installation of additional filtration plants in areas where they are needed.

The meeting decided to expand the Punjab Clean Water Authority to every district and tehsil. The institution will be reorganized using the successful model of the โ€œSuthra Punjabโ€ programme.

Speaking during the meeting, Maryam Nawaz said that providing clean drinking water is as important as carrying out development projects. She described the clean water initiative as one of her top priorities.

The chief minister warned that negligence or unnecessary delays would not be tolerated. She stressed that every citizen deserves access to safe drinking water and directed officials to speed up work on the province-wide plan.
