Islamabad โ The month of May 2026 is expected to bring extra public holidays for people across Pakistan. The holiday schedule offers more time for rest, family gatherings, and celebrations.
The month will start with a long weekend as Labour Day falls on May 1. Since May 1 will be observed on a Friday, it will connect with the weekend, giving people a three-day break.
For many families, May 2026 could become one of the most relaxed months of the year. Along with regular weekends, additional holidays are expected because of Eid al-Adha.
According to Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the meeting for moon sighting of Zil Hajj will be held on May 17. The moon sighting will decide the final Eid holiday dates.
If the moon is sighted on May 17, Eid al-Adha may begin on May 27. In that case, holidays will continue from May 27 to May 29. Combined with the weekend, people may enjoy a five-day break until May 31.
In the second possible scenario, if Dhul Qadah completes 30 days, Eid may start on May 28. This would create a four-day holiday period when combined with the weekend.
The federal government has already released its 2026 public holiday calendar. According to the Cabinet Division of Pakistan, there will be 11 public holidays and 23 optional holidays this year.
Labour Day and Yom-e-Takbeer are also included in May 2026. Yom-e-Takbeer will be observed on May 28.
The government holiday list also includes important dates later in the year. These include Kashmir Day on February 5 and Pakistan Day on March 23.
Public holidays for Ashura are expected on June 24 and 25. Independence Day will be observed on August 14.
