KARACHI: Police have sealed a guesthouse in Gulistan-e-Jauhar during the investigation into businessman Mir Raza Ali’s killing.
According to police, six employees of the guesthouse have been taken into custody. Four other people were also detained for questioning.
The four individuals had reportedly arrived at the guesthouse in a Swift car. Police are examining their possible connection with the incident.
Authorities said 19 people are currently being questioned in connection with the case. The newly formed investigation team will also question those detained.
The latest action comes as investigators intensify efforts to establish what happened to Mir Raza Ali. Police are also working to determine the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death.
Mir Raza Ali’s father, Mir Hussain, spoke to the media on Monday. He said the family was informed about a proposed judicial commission.
The Sindh government had proposed forming the commission to oversee the investigation. However, the family has not accepted the proposal at this stage.
Mir Hussain said he conveyed the family’s position to the home minister. He also raised questions about the investigation at the Gulistan-e-Jauhar guesthouse.
According to him, the family was not informed about the questioning of guesthouse employees. He also questioned why CCTV footage from the premises has not been released.
Police had earlier formed a new five-member team to investigate the alleged killing. The Sindh government later announced plans for a judicial commission.
The proposed commission would be headed by a Sindh High Court judge. Its purpose would be to oversee the investigation into the case.
Meanwhile, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon has approached the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency. He filed a complaint against unidentified social media accounts.
Memon alleged that false and defamatory content was being circulated about him and his son. He said the claims were intended to damage their reputations.
The minister denied claims that he owned the Gulistan-e-Jauhar guesthouse. He also rejected allegations involving his son’s movements after the incident.
Memon described the allegations as baseless and malicious. He claimed the accusations were politically motivated.
The Mir Raza Ali case has attracted significant public attention in Karachi. Investigators are continuing to examine evidence and question people connected to the incident.
Mir Raza Ali was 25 when he went missing on July 28. His body was found the following day near Shahi Qila Ground.
Police discovered the body in bushes in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. He had suffered a gunshot wound.
The Mir Raza Ali case remains under investigation. Authorities are expected to take further action based on the findings of the probe.
The latest developments could help investigators establish the sequence of events. Police are also expected to examine available CCTV footage and other evidence.
