During a hearing at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Monday, Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, was visibly emotional, declaring that justice in the country “doesn’t exist.” Her comments came during a court session concerning her husband’s bail, where she expressed deep frustration with what she described as “systematic unfairness” over the past nine months.
In a poignant moment, she stated, “There is no justice. I didn’t come here seeking justice,” questioning the integrity of the judicial process by asking, “Is the person inside [Imran Khan] not a human? Do the judges not see this?” She also indicated that this would be her last court appearance, expressing her disillusionment with the legal system. Bushra Bibi criticized her legal team, accusing them of wasting time and stated her willingness to accept imprisonment, lamenting the widespread injustice faced by both her and her husband across Pakistan.

The district and session court has reserved its decision on the bail applications of both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in seven cases. The proceedings, presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Afzal Magoo, saw legal representatives for both parties present. Bushra arrived in the courtroom as her lawyer, Salman Safdar, requested a strict order for Khan’s appearance via video link.
The hearing addressed six cases against Imran Khan and one against Bushra Bibi, including the Toshakhana case, which involves allegations of fraudulent documentation against the couple and others. The prosecution accused the defendants of providing fake receipts, prompting the judge to question the adequacy of the investigation conducted over the past year and a half. He demanded evidence of where these alleged fake receipts were submitted, with the prosecutor asserting that they had been provided to the Election Commission.
Frustrated, the judge emphasized the need for solid evidence, asking, “If I follow the law, who are you to file the case? Provide evidence of where the fake receipts were submitted.” Lawyer Salman Safdar pointed out that while the Election Commission issued a three-year sentence, it did not mention the specific receipt in question. The judge further instructed the jail superintendent to ensure Khan’s appearance, warning of consequences if he was not presented.
After considering the arguments from both sides and the investigative officer’s statement, the court reserved its decision on the bail pleas of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. It is important to note that the cases against both individuals were registered in 2023 across various police stations, including Kohsar, Ramna, Tarnol, Karachi Company, and Secretariat.
