Pakistan and Azad Kashmir Reject BBC Urdu Report on Road Closures

The Government of Pakistan and the administration of Azad Kashmir have strongly rejected a recent report published by BBC Urdu regarding alleged road closures in the region.

Officials described the report as inaccurate and said it did not reflect the actual situation in Azad Kashmir. They said the claims were based on unverified information.

According to a joint statement, authorities reviewed the report and found that its headline relied on comments from an anonymous source. They argued that the report lacked proper evidence.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of Pakistan has formally lodged a complaint with BBC Urdu over the publication.

The ministry said the report used unverified allegations and ignored official statements. It called the report misleading and factually incorrect.

Officials added that this was not the first time such reporting had appeared. They said repeated use of unverified claims has become a concerning trend.

Both Pakistan and Azad Kashmir governments stated that the report included no video proof, no witness accounts, and no official confirmation to support the allegations.

Authorities clarified that highways across Azad Kashmir remained open and traffic continued without disruption.

Officials also said that the AJK Chief Secretary and Inspector General of Police addressed the matter in a press briefing. Both denied the road closure claims.

According to the Azad Kashmir government, protesters linked to a banned action committee attempted to stop and plunder goods-carrying vehicles.

Law enforcement agencies responded quickly and restored order. Officials said transport routes stayed operational throughout the incident.

The government also rejected claims that citizens were being stopped on roads. It called those allegations false and misleading.

Authorities criticized the use of unnamed sources in the report. They said it created confusion and promoted a one-sided narrative.
