The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) on Wednesday confirmed that it Pakistan extends restrictions on Indian aircraft using its airspace until April 24, 2026. The decision continues a ban that has been in place since April 2025, following heightened tensions between the two countries.
The closure was first imposed after an attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmirโs Pahalgam. New Delhi accused Islamabad of involvement, although Pakistan denied the allegations. Officials in Pakistan offered to cooperate with a neutral investigation into the incident.
According to a new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the PAA, Pakistanโs airspace will remain closed to all aircraft registered in India. This includes planes owned, leased, or operated by Indian airlines, as well as military aircraft.
The ban affects both Karachi and Lahore Flight Information Regions (FIRs), as outlined by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority. The updated NOTAM comes just days before the previous restriction was set to expire on March 23, signaling a continuation of the airspace closure.
Officials noted that the move is a precautionary measure and part of Pakistanโs national security protocols. While diplomatic channels remain open, the airspace restriction is expected to remain in effect until April 24.
The continued closure has caused significant operational challenges for Indian airlines. Flights between India and destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia are being forced to take longer alternative routes. These detours have increased both flight times and fuel costs, impacting airline revenues.
Industry experts say that the restriction, which Pakistan extends for nearly a year, highlights the ongoing strain in Pakistan-India relations. Airlines and passengers are advised to monitor updates from civil aviation authorities before planning travel.

The PAA has emphasized that these measures are temporary and subject to review based on security assessments. Pakistan also encourages all parties to pursue dialogue to reduce tensions in the region.
