Pakistan has announced a temporary pause in Ghazab Lil Haq, the ongoing military operation targeting militants across the border. The decision was shared by Attaullah Tarar on Wednesday. The pause comes ahead of the Eidul Fitr holidays and follows requests from friendly countries.
According to officials, the pause in Ghazab Lil Haq will begin at midnight on March 18/19, 2026. It will remain in effect until midnight on March 23/24, 2026. The government described the move as a gesture of goodwill and respect for Islamic traditions.
The request for this pause came from countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkiye. These nations are said to have played a mediating role. Pakistan responded positively to support regional stability during the festive period.
Officials stressed that the pause in Ghazab Lil Haq is conditional. If any cross-border attack occurs, the operation will restart immediately. Authorities also warned that any terrorist activity inside Pakistan would lead to a strong response.
The operation was launched last month after rising tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Clashes began when Afghan Taliban forces reportedly opened fire on multiple locations. Pakistan responded with military action targeting suspected militant positions.
Since then, both sides have seen increased hostilities. Border areas have remained tense, with frequent reports of exchanges. The situation worsened after Afghanistan carried out a border offensive following earlier air strikes by Pakistan.
The government said the temporary halt in Ghazab Lil Haq reflects a commitment to peace. However, officials made it clear that national security remains the top priority. Any threat will be met with immediate action.
Analysts believe the pause could help reduce tensions in the short term. It may also create space for diplomatic engagement. However, the long-term impact will depend on developments after Eid.
