Petrol prices in Pakistan are expected to increase in the upcoming review period. Officials suggest a rise of around Rs4 to Rs5 per litre in petrol rates. Diesel prices may also see a minor adjustment.
According to sources, the ex-refinery price of petrol is expected to move from Rs270.03 to Rs274.77 per litre. The increase is linked to changes in global oil market trends.
The international market has shown a rise in crude oil prices. Petrol FOB rates have increased from $139.03 to $143.01 per barrel. This has directly affected domestic pricing pressure.
Even with slight reductions in other costs, the overall trend remains upward. Officials said the impact of global prices could not be fully absorbed.
The expiry of previous pricing adjustments by Pakistan State Oil has also contributed to the expected change. This has further added pressure on local fuel rates.
Despite this, diesel prices are expected to remain relatively stable. Only a small increase of around Rs5 per litre is being discussed in some estimates for fuel adjustments overall categories, while diesel itself may rise marginally by Rs0.20 per litre.
Authorities say diesel remains less affected due to government support measures. Reduced customs duties and policy adjustments are helping control its impact on consumers.
Petrol consumers are likely to feel the most immediate change in prices. The expected increase of Rs5 per litre is being closely watched by the public.
Transport costs may also be indirectly affected due to fuel adjustments. However, officials say diesel stability will help reduce broader inflation pressure.
The final decision on fuel prices will be made after government review. Taxes, petroleum levies, and exchange rate changes will also be considered.
For now, the expected Rs5 increase remains under discussion. Consumers are waiting for the official announcement for final confirmation of revised rates.
Authorities are expected to announce updated fuel prices in the next fortnightly review.
