Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting to review credit provision for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and small farmers. The session reaffirmed the governmentโs commitment to private sector-led growth and economic inclusion.
The meeting focused on improving financing access for new businesses and small farmers. PM Shehbaz emphasized that expanding credit opportunities is essential for sustainable development and increasing productivity in agriculture.
Officials highlighted steps taken by the State Bank of Pakistan to simplify loan procedures. These reforms aim to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and encourage wider participation in formal financing. The prime minister instructed authorities to ensure borrowers feel tangible relief from these measures.
Credit will be provided on a preferential basis to service providers promoting modern agricultural practices and technology adoption. PM Shehbaz stressed that supporting small farmers is vital to improve incomes and boost overall agricultural productivity.
The meeting also announced nationwide consultations for an SME policy. Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar and his team will visit all provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, to coordinate with local governments. The goal is to create a unified framework to facilitate small- and medium-scale businesses across Pakistan.
The prime minister noted that SMEs are the backbone of developed economies. Strengthening this sector in Pakistan will generate employment, accelerate industrial growth, and improve economic stability. Facilitating credit access for SMEs was described as a top government priority.
Youth entrepreneurship was another key focus. The prime minister highlighted the importance of providing training and financing to young people so they can start businesses. Equipping youth with skills and access to funds, PM Shehbaz said, is critical to unlocking Pakistanโs economic potential.
Officials confirmed that empowering SMEs, promoting agricultural innovation, and supporting youth entrepreneurs form central pillars of the governmentโs long-term economic strategy.
