Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formally approached the district administration to hold a public meeting in Karachi. The request comes ahead of the expected visit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to the city.
According to officials, PTI seeks permission to organize a peaceful public gathering at Bagh-e-Jinnah. The venue is located near the Mazar-e-Quaid area. The proposed event is planned for Sunday, January 11.
PTI Karachi President Raja Azhar and Secretary General Arsalan Khalid submitted a written request. The letter was addressed to the Deputy Commissioner East. In the letter, party leaders assured full compliance with all rules and regulations.
They stated that the gathering would remain peaceful. They also pledged to follow the code of conduct set by the administration. The letter added that the party is awaiting a positive response from authorities.
Party sources said the timing of the event is linked to Sohail Afridi’s visit to Sindh. Earlier reports suggested that the KP chief minister is planning official and political engagements in Karachi. Both provincial governments are coordinating to ensure a smooth visit.
Sources revealed that the Sindh government has already contacted PTI leadership. Sindh Minister Nasir Hussain Shah reportedly reached out to PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh. He conveyed that Sohail Afridi would be welcomed in Sindh.
Nasir Hussain Shah assured that proper protocol would be provided. He also said that no issues like those seen in Punjab would arise. He added that the decision had the approval of senior party leadership.
Haleem Adil Sheikh confirmed the communication. He said the message was passed on to Sohail Afridi. In response, the KP chief minister thanked the Sindh authorities for their cooperation.
Sohail Afridi stated that he does not require special protocol. He emphasized that political activity is a constitutional right. He said leaders should be free to meet party workers and supporters.
Sources also said Sohail Afridi may meet Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. The meeting would focus on inter-provincial coordination and political matters. The Sindh government has assured support within legal boundaries.
Meanwhile, PTI seeks approval from local authorities to proceed with its Karachi event. Party leaders said they respect the law and administrative process. They hope the request will be approved in time.
