Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced strict measures for private housing societies across the province. The decision was taken during a meeting of commissioners chaired by the Punjab CM, according to reports.
The meeting focused on development projects proposed in different districts of Punjab. Officials also briefed the Punjab CM on ongoing and approved schemes under district-level development plans.
During the meeting, the Punjab CM expressed serious concern over the tragic death of a three-year-old girl in Faisalabad. The child reportedly fell into an open sewer, raising concerns over poor safety measures in private housing societies.
Reacting strongly to the incident, Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz said strict action would be taken in the future. She stated that if any citizen falls into an open manhole again, the owners of the concerned housing society would be arrested.
To prevent similar incidents, the Punjab CM directed all commissioners to collect monthly affidavits from private housing societies. These affidavits must confirm that there are no open manholes within their premises.
She also ordered authorities to issue formal notices to all private housing societies across Punjab. The notices will remind them of their responsibility to ensure public safety and maintain proper infrastructure.
The Punjab CM also approved several public welfare projects under the District Development Plan. These projects will be funded through local revenue resources.
Addressing commissioners during the meeting, Maryam Nawaz said they are the โeyes, ears, and armsโ of the government. She urged them to perform their duties actively and remain present in the field.
The Punjab CM stressed that officers should not remain confined to offices. Instead, they should regularly inspect areas and monitor development work on the ground.
District administrative officers also presented updates on progress in their respective regions. They informed the meeting about completed work and projects currently under construction.
